From Happiness To Whatever
Sound Installation / carpet squares / 45 x 45 cm each / installation dimensions variable.
in collaboration with Kristian Mondrup Nielsen.
From Happiness To Whatever is a sound installation. A given space is covered completely with small carpets,
each in the size of 45 x 45 cm, corresponding to a style in the history of design. There are four speakers
imbedded in the ceiling, resembling a certain voice that “comes from above”. Emphasising the visual
harmony between each block, the artist reviews the topics of identity and immigration which she experienced
deeply in her personal life. The audio element is a spiritual-therapy-like broadcast program created by the
artist. In a humorous and ironic fashion, it repeatedly educate a visitor on the key to happiness. Didactic
broadcast program and the controlled softness and comfort of the space are in direct contrast, and the
work in its totality attempts to encourage the audience to reflect upon relief and relaxation achieved via
ignorance and oblivion. The work invites, and inquires in a fashion that is direct and delicate the concept
of identity based upon nationality and language.
